I was interested to find this video from the Blogher site where Erin Kotecki Vest has been attending the Democratic National Convention. She attended a panel entitled, Cracks in the Glass Ceiling. After the panel Erin interviewed the panelists, which included Marie Wilson from the White House Project. I happen to be a huge fan of Marie's book, 'Closing the Leadership Gap'. I completely agree that it is critical to get more women into politics because that is were some fundamental decisions get made that influence everything that follows. However I was a little disappointed to hear that the panelists were so keen to push for a percentage of women in government. This is a tough debate, I am still of the opinion that pushing for a quota if qualified candidates aren't available won't help the real cause.
There was an interesting turn of events later in the morning when John McCain announced his running mate to be Sarah Palen - this is a calculated vote generating move - how it plays out will come with time.
I'm a British working mother of 2 girls (8 and 10), married to an American, and living in the northwest. I’m in the 35ish to 49ish age band and am enjoying it (most of the time!). I seem to give the appearance that my life is organized, and lived to the fullest though the reality is I feel that I barely make it through the day and am focused on getting everyone off to sleep so I can have a quick moment for me, that is if I can avoid tidying the house, laundry, and getting ahead on the next day’s activities. I have a hard time finding me-time. I work for a software company which suggests I should be tech savvy, and in some ways I am at work but at home I want a simple life and want technology to contribute to me having better experiences in my life. So that's what I hope to share in this blog. I don't have time to wonder at technology but want it to assist in contributing quick moments to my life that bring pleasure. So though I'm after technology suiting me, I have to focus on promoting women to get them in positions to start working for me. That's what this blog is about (in a sometimes round-about way).
